What matters?
What matters?
Life is like the
weather. It may be pleasant one minute, but clouds can cover the sun in the
blink of an eye. But while weather is something you can still judge and take precautions
for beforehand, life isn’t lenient in the least. It will throw you down the
highest mountains just so that you learn your lesson. The least we can do is
manipulate our brain into finding the betterment of ourselves in every rock
thrown at our face, because life might as well seize that last ray of your
happiness before you even know it.
So while we are at
this topic, ask yourself this question- what actually matters in life? Does failure or success matter more than
the learning process included? Does the space in your house matter more than that
in your heart? Does it matter that you are in a cheap hotel and not in an
expensive one? Does the phone in your hand feel better or the hand of someone
you truly love does?
Certainly, these
thoughts don’t cross your mind the first time- when you are busy living in the
moment. But no matter how big your smile in your Instagram post is- at the end
of the day it doesn’t count as happiness, just as more likes and follows. That,
clearly, isn’t how you define a happy person. It is a shame that somehow, it is
a mindset that most poor people are richer in happiness than most rich people. And
even though I do not agree with their generalization, it does show what matters
more.
‘Success is
important in life’- every child feeds on this formula the very second he is
born, and when the child grows up- he smacks the same thing across the brains
of his children, too. This cycle keeps on going- but wait, where did the
mention of finding happiness go?
Why are children
unable to find time for their parents anymore? Because their parents told them
to find success and success alone, and while doing that the children forgot
about the part where happiness was also needed to find success.
Why are more and
more farmers committing suicide? Because they were so engrossed in giving others
food that they forgot that their own food and lives came somewhere in between,
too.
Why are there more
terrorists these days? Because they couldn’t find success in anything.
Terrorists could be these students who are stressing themselves more than they
should, or even farmers who are unhappy with their lives. Terrorists spread
terror because that was all they themselves knew in their lives.
There are, I am
sure, more reasons for people’s actions that are still unknown to the world.
But there is only one thing that
could have stopped them all from doing what wrong things they did, this
question- what matters?
Think about it...
Would your school
feel the same if not for other students and teachers- good and bad alike? No,
because what matters is that they embrace who they are with pride. Would the
scenery from your hotel room seem the same alone? No, because what matters is
that you are with your loved ones. Would you be happier if your sibling didn’t disturb
you when you told them not to? No, because what matters is that they care enough
to see your reaction every time.
Would life be the
same race without the hurdles in it?
No, because what matters is learning how to jump over the
hurdles and not winning the race.
