The Cruelty of Destiny
A Story-
Tears roll down onto Luna’s cheek when she hears the news.
All her faiths were now destroyed.
‘’The shipwreck in Alaska has been very disastrous. Many
children have lost their parents and siblings and are mourning their death.
They are stranded and desperate now. There is a very great turmoil here and no
one knows what is happening, they want revenge from the captain of the ship and their families who left them shelter
less. Millions of people are wounded and some are massacred too.’’ Said the
reporter.
Luna thought about her family, it was best she could’ve ever
got. They were travelling on the ship too. She didn’t know how any of this had
taken place, she was in her home waiting for the phone call of her family when
she heard the news and all she knew was that she had no family now. Luna imagined
her family drowning in the waters of Alaska, even thinking about it felt like
she had poisoned herself.
Things had taken place in such a short lease of time that
she hardly had time to react and shout and scream and cry. Luna was very close
to her family ever since she was a child. Her mother, Everdeen, was very
cheerful and affectionate. Her father, Charles, was charming and intelligent.
But her brother, Percy, was quite the opposite of all of them, he was very
unfriendly and shabby. Even though Luna was a very polite and loveable girl
whom everybody liked; she did not have many friends for she did not trust people, no one but her brother Percy.
Luna and Percy were very close to each other, their
relationship was not because they were siblings but because they understood
each other more than anyone, even themselves. Their relationship was very unexplainable.
Probably that is why she couldn’t believe his brother was gone, his own brother
who was his best friend and only friend she had ever made. And this was too
much for her, even if she was 22.But Luna could feel something stirring in her
heart which said that Percy may be alive. Luna just wanted Percy, because he
was Luna’s everything.
So she decided to go to Alaska and try and find her brother.
So this is how she books a flight online that takes off for Alaska at 5 in the
morning the next day. Luna packed her bag and kept some food to eat. And so soon
she is on a flight to Alaska, and the next moment she is in Alaska itself. The
weather in Alaska was temperate and it seemed very graceful in the summer’s
sun. She could smell the fragrance of daisies and feel the cold but self-serving
breeze on her cheeks. But she did not have much time to waste.
Luna ate one of the sandwiches which she had brought from
home and then started the search. She started from the local market for if she
were with her family she would go to the market only. But when she had asked
all the shop owners and local people Luna knew that she was not so right
always. She had even tried to spy on some businessmen to see if they knew
something at all, but of course that was of no use at all. She asked all the
people if they had seen a boy who was tall, filthy and grumpy, again no. The
next few days which seemed like they were eternal, Luna wandered from here to
there; she had gone almost everywhere, but as you have also noticed she did not
even think of the port!
She was so baffled that she forgot that the most obvious
place was the port, of course. Soon Luna had given up hope until there was a
spark in her mind. A voice in her head said ‘’Luna, honestly you’re the biggest
idiot I have ever seen in my life!
Why did not you go to the PORT???’’.
And as soon as she heard it she was in a rage how did she not even think of it,
and she took a cab nearest and told the driver to rush to the port as fast as
he can.
On reaching the port Luna was surprised by a very big pack
and she knew that all of these people were down-and-out and destitute. She
wanted to help them but right now she was just thinking about him; Percy her
brother. She looked for him everywhere but there was no sign of his filth or
shabbiness at all, Luna was broken, she was so desperate to see him and she
felt like she had known that he was alive but now the reality was in front of
her. On comparing the reality from the expectations Luna felt like she was
betrayed. Now she had given up. She turned back and was about to leave when
someone stopped her by seizing her wrist. She tried to free it but her wrist
was narrow and she was easily trounced. She turned around and was ready to
fight with whoever it was, but when she saw who it was she almost died of a
heart attack.
Yes! It was him! It was Percy, her brother at last. Tears
started to roll down from her eyes and everything became blurry, she looked at
him through the blur and saw he was untrimmed. Percy hugged her sister making
Luna cry even more.
‘’I knew you would come!’’ Percy said at last.
‘’I thought you were…’’ Luna started but couldn’t complete
for she had lost it completely. ’’Where are Mom and Dad? ’’ She managed to say
at last.
At this Percy became rigid and did not say anything.
‘’’Percy, I asked where are Mom and Dad?’’ she repeated
again.
‘’They are no more’’ he said silently.
At this Luna did not know how she should feel. She knew she
had only two options either her parents or Percy, and she had always wanted
Percy more than anyone, but it was all very naive to know this. Luna now knew
that she only had Percy, though they will be orphans now but she still had him.
Now five years had passed and again it was another summer day in Alaska, but now Luna
and Percy were orphans they had nobody but each other. They stayed in an
orphanage but it was moreover a home, a home where one could find all types of
people. People who keep bragging about their possessions, people who care for
others, people who are insolent and people who have lost hope. But they were
still a family and would always remain one. Percy and Luna knew that if this
was their destiny; they had to accept it for they knew what has to happen will happen and no one can stop it from happening.
