The night, The man and The bridge

‘’That night I saw the man walking on the bridge ‘’

It was a hot summer day when the group of four went out to the boathouse to cool off themselves. They were small (all of them were teenagers) yet they were intelligent sleuths. They had solved five of the most obscure cases. The four- Colette, Honey, Jim and Tom- were swimming after a long time because of school and that now school was closed for two weeks they swam for a long time. But Colette wanted to go horse riding, who was stubborn so she went to the stables.

The stables were quiet but in a bizarre way, the horses never went so quiet. Colette hurried towards the stables, and she had to stop when she saw something that made her eyes pop out of her head. There was a peculiar man who was unlocking the stables. Though Colette had also solved five cases but she was the biggest sissy in the group also. So she went back to the pool where she explained what all she saw. The three were so astonished that they could hardly say a word in reaction, obviously because they had saw queer and eerie people or things only at other place but never at their own house or rather bungalow.

Then Tom spoke up, ‘’ this could be Colette’s imagination too but if it’s the truth we ought to be careful’’. Jim agreed with Tom but the two girls dissented; they wanted to know who this strange man sneaking in the house or rather the stables is?

The next day they went to the Tower Bridge, while they were enjoying themselves, Colette saw the same man with the straight hair she had seen the previous afternoon. After they had reached home she blurted out ‘’I saw the same man on the bridge! But he seemed to be so familiar!’’
The four now knew that someone was spying on them, but they didn’t knew why the ‘someone’ was doing so. Honey conjectured that this may be because of their well-known knack for solving mysteries. And everyone thought this reasoning was sensible. From the next day onwards, everyone saw the eerie man at their house.

Honey saw the man in the garage while she was parking her bike, Jim saw him near his window and Tom saw him in the cottage where he often goes to meditate.  By now they all knew they had to do something. So they talked about it and decided to make a trap for him at all those places where they had seen him, everyone except Colette. They contrived that they would keep a watch at the place where they saw him at night because everyone had seen him during night only (except Colette).
Colette didn’t tell anyone where she was going. The next day all of them had dark circles and sleepy visages as usual everyone except Colette! The three asked her the reason. But instead of answering she took them to her bedroom.

‘’ Now everyone please don’t be annoyed but this is the truth. Last night I saw the man walking on the bridge!!’’ She said
Everyone fell off their chairs and started speaking all at a time, Colette shushed them all and said
‘’’I know why he’s spying around here. ‘’’
‘’So would you kindly tell us Ms. Coco ‘’ retorted Tom
‘’I know I am a sissy but I thought I have to help us get out of this fuss, so I spied on him the way he had. And surprisingly he was none other than the former Mayor of the town!’’’ she burst out.

All of them were surprised but they knew that the troublesome Mayor would come back. And from that day all of them saw the Mayor on the bridge.
‘’ That night I saw the man walking on the bridge, again’’ said all of them

One night all of them went to the Tower Bridge. They all caught the sight of the man but the man seemed to have come prepared because he saw them sneaking at the bridge at night. The MAN pulled them to his cottage and asked them ‘’ what in the world are you doing here at night?’’

‘’ Actually what were you numbskull doing at our house in day and night-time, Mr. Mayor or should I say Mr. Sneaky- Peaky?’’ retorted Tom with a lot of courage and anxiety.
His cheeks flamed and he told them that he had been coming to see if they were fine every night because they had helped himn he needed it.

’’ But what made you unlock the stables?’’ asked Honey. ‘’ Of course to groom my dear horses!’’ replied the Mayor in a smart manner.

Their hearts sank when they heard they weren’t on the trail of a cryptic mystery.
‘’ All are efforts were in vain!!’’ said Jim.

And they all went home to sleep with relief in their minds
