let's talk about Kay
meet Kay. you’ve probably heard of her and definitely made fun of her, if not question her existence. today I’m here to talk about the injustice against Kay, the struggles that she’s been through but which have seldom been talked about. she is the very embodiment of underestimation.
look at words like knowledge and knife. aside from the fact that they can be used to kill, they have Kay in common. but her presence isn’t even acknowledged and many have gone as far as to say that without her these words would be the same. at this point, it’s clear that Kay is oppressed to the point of silence (literally).
to get a better understanding of Kay’s struggle, let’s consider her greatest rival, Cee. we’ve all heard of her, have we not? if the alphabet family had a school dedicated to themselves, she would be your it girl. the power she holds is immense. not only does she come before Kay in the alphabets, it’s crystal that Cee is the better-liked and more used of the two. from cool to creative, from chandelier to celestial, Cee’s reign is over much covetable words.
but Cee isn’t all that likeable— she’s fickle. she changes her form, sounds one way in coke and chips, she’s calm but controlling, and her confusion is clear in her complacency. there is an unending list of the words under her that testify to her constant shape-shifting: from sounding like Kay to trying to usurp Es’ humble kingdom. in fickle itself, you will find that the word does just fine without Cee’s presence, for Kay does not pretend to be something she’s not.
Cee’s thirst for power is insatiable and studies have shown that it was, indeed, her supporters who went undercover on many social media platforms, especially Youtube, in an attempt to overthrow Kay’s kingdom by writing nonsensical comments like: “she attacc, she protecc but most importantly, . . .” these comments are omitting not just Kay but posing a threat to Tee’s generosity as well. are these obscure soldiers trying to imply that the world would function just fine without Kay and Tee?
to add to this, think of anything and you will find Cee there. you love your smartphone? guess what else it’s called— cellphone. you like the new table you purchased? i wonder what you else need— oh, of course, a chair. need to tell your friend quickly that you’ll meet them soon? just say “c u l8r” and all is forgiven.
however, my intent in writing this is not to hate on Cee and notwithstanding my claims, I believe that without Cee the alphabets would not be the same- they would collapse. the reason I am writing this is to cast your attention on Kay. she’s ordinary and so very plain but hey, she’s strong. cake, a word that we can (and should) discuss all day long, exhibits the aforementioned strength that Kay wields. imagine cake being cace or even kace. Kay holds the world together by bearing to take residence after Cee. what would the world do without cake? Kay is accepting of the fact that it’s best for everyone if she doesn’t lose it and refuses to rise to Cee’s bait of constantly changing the way she sounds.
Kay barely owns king and kingdom and in fact, even Q’s meagre kingdom has the timeless queen. but here’s the catch: Kay does anything but complain. it your typical que sera, sera situation and I even suspect that our Kay is a devoted stoic because the way she handles crises that Cee throws her way is nothing short of commendable. Kay isn’t asking for much—just a little recognition, a little credit because even the alphabets are not immune to the need for validation.
please support Kay, please notice her presence (or absence) in words, please appreciate how she symbolises so many things. Cee may have managed conquer a considerable portion of Kay’s kingdom and there’s no denying that cash, coffee and chai are hers— but let’s not forget the crazy and chaos that comes with it, and of course, since it’s quarantine season, let’s not forget that the infamous COVID- 19 is a citizen of Cee’s prosperous kingdom.
to conclude, i would like to warn everyone that sure, kittens and kind are all up in Kay’s territory but so is karma.

K is my favourite letter and this is why. there have been points in my life where I felt like collateral damage (ironic how even collateral doesn’t start with K) and when we make fun of Kay and degrade her for being silent in words like knee, that’s exactly how she feels. please open your eyes to the strife of Kay.
