Of vision on the periphery.
peripheral
pəˈrɪf(ə)r(ə)l/
adjective
1. relating to or situated on the edge or periphery of something.
- of secondary or minor importance; marginal.
Peripheral vision: Side vision; what is seen on the side by the eye when looking straight ahead.
Is peripheral vision, indeed, marginally insignificant?
To imagine vision without periphery would make us. . . blind.
The beauty of seeing it without watching it, of it just being there. Of it sitting there to complete your vision, your view. Periphery isn’t just the edge of our vision, it’s not the the edge of anything but actually, everything.
What is the end to you might be the beginning for another, what is background for you might be the very thing that brings color to another’s life.
Periphery is everything. It’s our trash but the cat’s dinner, it’s our god -their fairytale, it’s my love against your prejudice... It’s the differences between you and me that have learnt to tell each other, ‘We’re different.’
People say, ‘You already know everything- you just forgot how to remember.’.
What they actually mean is, ‘You’ve already seen everything- you just don’t remember to look.’
Because, truth is we don’t need pictures.
We don’t need any other memory other than the one that tells me my name is not Einstein.
What we don’t remember is for the better,
and what we choose not to publicize- even so.
Peripheral vision and memory are similar. You aren’t supposed to notice or remember until reminded. They are both supposed to be negligible as we live.
We made memories come out of the margin, into the big picture. We employed the sidekick as the hero in our movies.
Peripheral vision still sits there. Helping us to see without looking.
If peripheral vision revolted at the unfairness it faced, about how memory is actually insignificant, we wouldn’t ever be able to see.
We would always be looking..
at the essentially, unimportant things.
Peripheral vision has sacrificed more than you know. The margin became thinner, more uncomfortable as memory entered the main page.
Peripheral vision is the blinking cursor on your screen. Do we ever stop to look at it, to look at it going back and erasing what we want to remove, no matter how many times we make do so? To watch it give life to our words?
However,
peripheral vision is important, even more so than memory.
Memory became paramount. But also, accessible. It isn’t something that we need to worry about. We’ve learnt to capture it.
Peripheral vision remains elusive. You don’t notice it usually. But when the camera slightly turns to reveal it,
it’s rare.
it’s precious.
It saves you, it surprises you and most importantly, it becomes you.
for a moment.
Peripheral vision’s insignificance is important. We manage to see the world as long as we don’t look at the unimportant details.
Which is why,
you should forget about this blog.
Because peripheral vision is, indeed, marginally insignificant.
