The Story of All Parents.

Note to my dearest parents: Happy birthday! I am sorry I cannot give a better gift to you than a mere blog post- but words are the only gifts that can even come close to explain how much I love you, and how much you mean to me. I hope you understand.

Parents. They are the only people in the universe who give you every single thing in the world and never ask for it back. They let you dwell on your dreams and keep the problems faced during the course of accomplishing it to themselves. They will always let you think that everything is alright even when they are under more pressure than they can handle. Parents will do anything to shield you from your fears and enemies but yet won’t be afraid to tell you to stop when you walk into the wrong direction.

They act like a compass- it shows you the right direction flawlessly unless there is too much of magnetic force. Similarly, parents can tell you what to do and what not to, but once you start to take into account- the opinions and point of views of other people (which are generally easier to follow than that of parents’), there is little even they can do. Others’ views start to deflect the needle of your trust away from your parents.

The world is a place where a child can only learn to walk on his own but parents- despite knowing the chances of their child leaving them behind one day- keep helping him in all possible ways. The child doesn’t always see how selfless his parents are because they put on a happy face whenever near their child, but forget that if they don’t show their emotions and express themselves; the child tends to oversee the care and attention parents need and deserve. After all, parents are human too- they can’t always be their child’s wish-granting genie.

A parent’s love for their child is endless as an ocean is. They are willing to become the villain to their child if it means it helps him to stay on the right path. But if the parent, once in awhile, keeps reminding the child that they themselves are mortal humans and not their guardian angel maybe the child will be able to understand his parent better. If parents stop concealing the fact that even they can make mistakes in tasks, then maybe the child will try to become better himself. Parents are those dams that keep the river of obstacles in life from overwhelming the child, and that bridge that keeps reminding him that one step at a time is enough. But it is important that parents display to their child that, at the end of the day they can not do find a solution to all his problems.

So to my parents, who have been stronger than the Great Wall of China and let me dream higher than the Burj Khalifa, I want to thank for all you have done to make me feel so prized and special.

Thank you for hugging me to I sleep and buying me all the novels I wanted without any ado. Thank you for encouraging me when I wasn’t in highest of the spirits and always supporting me when I needed you to. Thank you for understanding my point of view and scolding me when I was being reckless. Thank you for worrying about me when I wasn’t in your line of sight and for grounding me to teach me a lesson. Thank you for everything.

No matter how many blogs or cards I write- it won’t be enough to explain how much I owe you. I want you to know that no matter how far I am from you- distance can never break the bond we share. I need you to know that no matter how much I tell you I don’t need you or that I can handle things on my own- there will always be your need in my life. You should know that no matter how many friends I make; you will always be my best friend.

But. . .

Mom, Dad on this day I would like to ask you and all the other parents of the world for a small gift. Please stop hiding the pressure you go through and tell us when you need help. You have done so much to help us and yet, never made us feel bad about it. Tell us when you think you can’t do something alone or when you don’t want to do it. Tell us what you want- ask for our help, because then, even though the needle of our compass will deflect someday, we will know whom to trust unconditionally.
