The Mobile Epidemic

MY THOUGHTS~

Epidemics like yellow fever, influenza, dengue and typhoid are probably the worst nightmare diseases of most Indians, but that is the least of our problems in the 21st Century, now. With the introduction of social media and online shopping apps, hardly anyone has the time to actually step out and do anything, so how do you actually expect anyone to even catch a viral fever? It’s more of a net fever these days. Pay a visit to someone and perhaps, there isn’t an hour that passes by without you checking your iPhone for WhatsApp messages and, Snapchat and Instagram stories.

Why does a bulb emit light? Or why is water blue? These questions are might not pique your curiosity, but there is a question that concerns every Indian. Why do you feel the urge to check your phone after every... hour, at the least? A brief detailed answer is dopamine. Whenever, while checking your phone for new notifications, you find a new alert, a hormone named dopamine is released in your body. Or in simple understandable words, WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, etc. make you feel excited. So dopamine is the molecule behind your secret cravings. It makes you feel captivated and happy whenever another person posts a picture of them dining at the food court.

Wonder why all the news on your new news app looks so eye-catching? Well, the release of dopamine in the body is kindled by the apps by making their content eye-catchy, hence, the result is a drained phone and an exhausted you. Tempting offers on online shopping stores make you buy things, that you buy goods that you do not necessarily need.

Furthermore, most of this media talked about above, is moreover oriented to make you serve them as a source of income. Basically, you’re deceived into doing what media wants you to.
