The Cursed Child- The Eighth Story, Nineteen Years Later..
A Book Review~
TIP: It would be better if you didn’t read this if you don’t want to know any more about the book than you already know for there are a lot of spoilers in here
At last, Joanne gives us a motivation again to live this life which had been always a strife. Our Godmother that is Jo herself gave us another reason for our full-of-destitutions life. The Cursed Child may be the script of a play but that does not change the fact that it still is another Harry Potter adventure. Released on 31st July- preordered by many fans, including me, years ago, this book feels like magic. This is also the first book to be shown in a play to all fans in London at the Palace Theater (WHY ONLY LONDON?!!)
2nd August at 4:15 p.m. I recall, my mother woke me up and stated that it had come, yes, at last IT HAD COME!! It might be a small thing for all the others, but me? I jumped out of my bed to go to my copy of the Cursed Child. The book was there, sitting on my table, waiting for me to open it, waiting for me to read another adventure of The Boy Who Lived. I tore the packaging and there it was! ANOTHER REASON WHY I EXIST-HARRY POTTER AND THE CURSED CHILD!!
The Cursed Child is poles apart from the other ventures of Harry. Mainly, because he is now a 37-year-old stressed-out employee of the Ministry for Magic. He & Ginny have three kids- Albus Severus Potter, James Sirius Potter and Lily Luna Potter. Lily is the youngest, James the eldest and Albus? Oh, he is the superman of our adventure. In the commencement, like Harry, Albus is anxious that he might be sorted into the ‘evil’ house of Slytherin (how could he think that?!).Harry being his father (sounds weird, right?) attempts to ease him, but Albus isn’t exactly calm.
During the book, Harry and Albus don’t really get along very well as a dad & son, which really pains me.
From there the story moves more rapidly, and soon Albus is in his third year. What about albus? He is a Slytherin and a moody and an unhappy son of Harry Potter, who couldn’t reach the world’s expectations and also who is the best friend of….Scorpius Malfoy, the son Of Draco Malfoy (shocked?). The book being a play does not give all the information like in the previous adventures , and somewhere I felt it wasn’t the original J.K. Rowling writing, well that shouldn’t come as a revelation considering the fact that Jo was helped by Jack Throne & John Tiffany (too many J’s, right?)
Another startling thing about the book is that Hermione is the Minister for Magic! I never thought that would happen. And I was disappointed by the fact, that many people like- Luna, Molly, Arthur, George, Hugo, Cho, Sirius and even Dobby!!- were not involved in the story. Well, I know we can’t expect every adventure to have them but…at least on dialogue would’ve been satiating for me.
I found the book very, very, very electrifying because the Time-Turner,-ah, yes, our old friend from the third book- made things very attention-grabbing and at times thwarting too. Actually, Amos Diggory the father of Pretty Boy Diggory (Cedric, of course) wanted his dear son back from the bygone. He did not like the fact that his son had been treated like a spare.
Albus tries to help the distraught father, but little did he know that he was under the control of Delphi who was -at least she pretended- the cousin of Cedric. She helped Albus and Scorpius in trying to bring Cedric alive, but as the story develops we find out there isn’t something right about her. So then, who was she? Well, if you want to know that, better read the book. Delphi isn’t someone you should think is….normal. The evidence that some part of Voldemort (I am cringing) was still alive, was that Harry’s scar was hurting- again. I know how nauseating that is, but that is what happened.
A thing that I found was very sensational, was that Harry and Draco - the best-know foes of all time- become friends! Yeah, sometimes the concern for our prized ones makes us do unwelcome things. But I actually found their friendship pleasant, but nothing is better than a Potter and Malfoy fight! And again to know what happened that they became friends, READ-THE-BOOK.
Also Snape (god I am gonna cry hard today), yes our Half-blood prince is alive-don’t get too ecstatic, because it is just for a while- because of the Time-Turner. Weird it was, to hear (well, something like that) speak again! But I freaked out when the damn Dementors kissed Hermione, Ron and Snape!!!! (Spare the extra exclamation marks, please). I would’ve died of choking on air, if Hermione & Ron wouldn’t have been alive and married, when Scorpius made things normal. Another very, very disturbing thing is that because of the intrusions in time, Cedric becomes a Death-Eater and Voldemort wins the Battle of Hogwarts, which is when Snape is alive. And guess what? HARRY POTTER a.k.a THE BOY WHO LIVED- D-I-E-D! I know it isn’t that big a deal, but it is! I mean think about it- no Potters, no Grangers, no Weasleys, only Malfoys and only Voldemort & valor, it was all not…not okay for me!! But what happens next? Well, I repeat myself- read-the-book.
If you are a Harry Potter fan this story will surely bring tears to your eyes again (Like our godmother always does). I remember on 3rd August’s night at eleven o’ clock and fifty-five minutes (11:55 p.m.) I turns the last page of the book and let the reality sink in, I had finished the last adventure of Harry Potter, when I had decided to read this book- slowly! No, no, no, no, no, don’t tell me!!
This book is what I call a real page-turner, you may be disappointed in the beginning but do not give up, just like Harry and Jo never did.
Well, I would recommend this book very, very highly to all those who have read the previous Harry Potter exploits and needed more of it in their life. The book has a lot of kith and kin with the fourth book that is that Goblet of Fire, so you must’ve read all the books before this one, and if you haven’t read them first.
Thank you, you better buy your copy now and please excuse me while I go and snuggle into mine for a hundredth time.
TIP: It would be better if you didn’t read this if you don’t want to know any more about the book than you already know for there are a lot of spoilers in here
