The Hunger Games
A book review-
The Hunger Games written by Suzanne Collins is a very
stimulating and unconceivable book. I am very thankful to Collins for writing
such a startling book! She made my life-after I got disheartened about
finishing Harry Potter- just like J.K Rowling did!!
The Hunger Games tells us about the struggle and valor of
Katniss Everdeen-the girl on fire- and how she handled each situation. I mean,
if you find out that you’re going to be beached in a place you don’t know which
is controlled by the President of you area (especially one who smells of blood
and roses!!Eww!), and you have to kill your allies and other adversaries, you
will have to be vexed, and then at the same time if you have to think about
your family and try to win, well I would probably freak out.
In Panem, there is a very bigoted ritual (I would not
completely call it just a ritual) of Reaping, in which the names of the people
are taken out –one man and one woman- from each district, there are 12 Districts
in Panem. So totally 24 people-called Tributes- are procured from them. The
twenty-four innocent (maybe) Tribute have to survive in the deadly arena –the
place where the Gamemakers and President Snow set up the Game- and the one who lasts
is the Victor! But before that they get to live a well-appointed life, for a
short period, and to get trained a bit.
There is a Tribute Parade in which the Tributes represent
their Districts through their regalia, styled by their stylists. President Snow
concedes them and welcomes them as well. The Gamemakers take a personal
assessment kind of thing of the Tributes and give them score accordingly. And
then they are set into the arena which changes every year. From there you might
like to read the books.
Katniss is called the Girl on Fire because of her talented
stylist - Cinna- who designs her such striking dresses every time and each one
has only one same trait, fire, Katniss comes from 12, the district which mines
coal, and Cinna is so talented that he manages to get fire in every one of her divine
and appealing dresses.
Other than Katniss, Peeta Mellark has to suffer too. Well,
Peeta is a baker’s son who was reaped as the male tribute from district 12. He
was the one of the two who had to cover every time for both himself and
Katniss. And then there are Haymitch Abernathy, who is their mentor as well as blotto
and Effie Trinket, who always keeps reminding them of their tight schedule.
Also, Katniss’s best friend back in 12, Gale Hawthrone, with whom she hunted in
the wood (I think I should add the word ‘illegally’) Katniss’s family members
include, her mother -Mrs. Everdeen, her sister- Primrose Everdeen and her
father- Mr. Everdeen who died in a mine blast.
What I feel is the most prejudicial part is about making the
allies and then having to kill them in the end! I mean, what do they all want
from the Games? Blood? Money? Regard? Terror? Or empathy? Well, whatever do
they do they are not getting any of them. People are being killed in that backbiting
game, and no one is showing a slenderest intimation of humanity! What kind of
people are President Snow, Peacekeepers and the blood-thirsty people? They’re callous!
The same bias happens with Katniss, her sister is reaped,
she volunteers, she subsists and still that teenage girl has to return to that
arena?! Oh yes, she has to!
Well, you’ll have to read The Hunger Games to know what
really happens. The book is very prodigious and at times heart-rending also.
But whatever you say Suzanne Collins has written a very grand and implausibly impeccable
trilogy!
